First Dental Tucson Emergency Dentist

First Dental does accept most dental PPO insurance plans.  However, whether you have dental insurance or not, we are here to help you feel better.

We understand emergencies and that is why we set aside time on the schedule to treat them. If your regular Tucson dentist can’t see you for a few days or weeks or you don’t have one, we are happy to serve.

Here are a few common reasons to seek out an emergency dentist in Tucson. These are situations we consider to be a dental emergency.

Tooth Pain

Tooth pain doesn’t usually get better on its own. It tends to continue to get worse and worse. Most of the time, this horrible pain is caused by an infection that has made its way to the nerves inside of the tooth, known as an abscess.

Dr. Yang will get x-rays to determine the cause of the pain.  Sometimes the tooth is too painful to work on right then. It is called a hot tooth. In those cases, we may prescribe antibiotics to take the infection down before performing any procedures.

Most of the time we can save the tooth from needing an extraction with a root canal.

Teeth Knocked Out

That is a serious emergency. The quicker you can get to the dentist, the better chance you have of saving the tooth. It is recommended to get to a dentist within 30 minutes in such cases for the best chance of saving the tooth. Pick the knocked-out tooth up by the chewing end and gently wash any dirt off of it. Try to pick it up and put it back into the mouth socket as quickly as possible. If you can’t get it back into the tooth socket, keep it moist at all times. It is best if it’s in your mouth. If that is not possible, spit into a cup and keep it there. Do not use tap water! Sometimes the tooth can even be saved if it has been outside of the mouth for an hour or more. Just get to the dentist ASAP!

Lost Filling, Crown or Bridge

Losing any of these can cause a lot of pain and exposure of the dentin, nerves and blood vessels to air. You need a dentist ASAP to get those replaced. The longer one waits, the more severe the break can become.

Broken or Chipped Tooth

Accidents sometimes happen. We have seen it all. Regardless of the cause of the break or chip, it needs to be addressed quickly. Broken teeth are susceptible to infection. If it sits longer, a simple tooth chip can quickly spiral into a root canal later.

Things an Emergency Dentist Cannot Treat.

Broken or dislocated jaw.

We don’t have the equipment to reset bones and an Oral Surgeon or an Orthopedic Specialist is better for broken bones. We only treat broken teeth.

Deep lacerations of the face and mouth.

This is something an emergency room doctor or Oral Surgeon is better equipped for as well.

An infection that is impacting breathing or swallowing.

This may require an emergency IV drip and we don’t keep any specialized drugs like that on our premises. Again, a patient would be much better served going to the emergency room.

First Dental Arizona is located in the Midvale Park shopping center on West Valencia. We are close to Drexel Heights and the West Valencia areas in Tucson. We are located about one mile west of I-19 at Valencia Road.
